Jonathan Foley

Jonathan Foley’s work focuses on finding solutions to sustain the climate, ecosystems, and natural resources we all depend on. He has published over 140 scientific articles, including many highly cited works in Nature  and Science, and has written many popular pieces for National Geographic, The New York Times, The Guardian, and Scientific American. A noted science communicator, he has presented at hundreds of venues, including the Aspen Institute, the World Bank, the National Geographic Society, the Chautauqua Institution, the Commonwealth Club, the National March for Science, and TED.


Dr. Foley has won numerous awards and honors, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, awarded by President Clinton; the J.S. McDonnell Foundation’s 21st Century Science Award; the Sustainability Science Award from the Ecological Society of America; and the prestigious Heinz Award for the Environment. Prior to joining Project Drawdown, he served as the Executive Director of the California Academy of Sciences and led several environmental science and sustainability organizations with associated faculty appointments at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Minnesota.

About the Event

The first panel will examine these issues from a business/technological standpoint, and the second panel will dive into the implications on policy and politics. Panelists, made up of a combination of mayors, policy makers, academia and industry leaders, will discuss the future of work and the likely impact of automation, innovation, and other trends on cities across the United States.
